SC Justice accepts nomination for Ombudsman post
MANILA, Philippines - Supreme Court Justice Conchita Carpio-Morales has accepted the nomination for appointment to the position of Ombudsman of the next country.
Morales, who will retire from the SC on June 19, 2011 after attaining the age of mandatory retirement at 70, is among the list of candidates for the position presented by the Council of the Judiciary and Bar (JBC) .
She is the cousin of SC Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio.
Positions in the Office of the Ombudsman which are now in play are those released by the Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez and Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon Mark Jalandoni.
In a separate list of the JBC, both former allies of the former Ombudsman Simeon Marcelo to the Ombudsman's Office are now seeking the post of Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon.
Of a total of 17 candidates for the position left by Jalandoni, who resigned before Gutierrez, two of them are former allies of Marcelo, namely, Jude Caingat and Gerard Mosquera.
Caingat was former deputy director of Marcelo at the Office of the Ombudsman Mosquera was a former Chief Ombudsman Marcelo during the quarter and now sits as an Associate Commissioner of the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG).
A career official of the Office of the Ombudsman is also seeking the nomination of the JBC is a former adversary Jalandoni in the position of Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon.
JBC former topnotch Roque Dator is now reapply for the position. He is a researcher of the graft and Officer of the Department in the Office of the Ombudsman.
Also applying for the position Ombudsman Special Prosecutor Robert Kallos Assistant.
Kallos was one of the government prosecutors who made the conviction for plunder of former President Joseph Ejercito Estrada at the Sandiganbayan anti-corruption court in 2001.
Other insiders are Ombudsman Director Mary Susan Guillermo Cesar Tirol and Rafael Hipolito.
The other candidates are Manila Regional Trial Court Judge Reynaldo Ross, lawyers Francis Jardeleza, Ma, Maribel Alvarez Domado Hazeline activist, David Stephen, Medwin Dizon, Leo Romero, Sophia Maria Solidum Tirol-Taylor and Francis Rutger.
