Ohio should close tax loopholes, say research groups from across the political ...

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The cash-strapped government of Ohio could generate an additional $ 300 million a year by closing tax loopholes that are outdated, have little or do little to stimulate economic growth, a trio of reflection on policies covering the entire political spectrum told the state leaders Monday.

Among the goals is a tax break for people who buy shares of time in jet aircraft, which cost taxpayers $ 1 million per year tax credit for people who make campaign contributions, which has cost $ 4.9 million and a tax credit of $ 50 for those 65 and over, which cost $ 33 million.

The groups behind the proposal - the conservative Buckeye Institute, the liberal Center for Community Solutions and the more centrist of Greater Ohio - also proposes that all tax loopholes - known as tax expenditures - end or repealed, unless re-enacted by the General Assembly and approved by the governor.

The groups, which started lobbying leaders in the Legislature and administration last week and sent detailed proposals Monday that the tax structure of the state local taxes are competitive, but still too high.So they also want to create a bipartisan commission to study the tax system and recommend ways to better harmonize national and local taxes to address population movements, tax burdens and address of economic forces.

"Our view is that the local tax structure is outdated really hinder the growth of Ohio," Lavea Brachman, executive director of Greater Ohio, said. Tax laws, she said, "did not follow up with the way we live and work."

But closing tax loopholes has become a political hot potato. Republican leaders liken this action to tax increases and reject the idea outright.Dozens of Republican leaders, including Governor John Kasich and Speaker William G. Batchelder signed "no-tax" pledge created by the group anti-American tax for tax reform. Democrats, including former Governor Ted Strickland has called such promises during the campaign last year, a gadget, but also said they had no intention of raising taxes.

"Our hope is that by showing that disparate groups can come together in agreement on many things, that perhaps the legislature and the parties can do the same thing," said Matt Mayer, president of the Buckeye Institute .

Other groups, such as research left Ohio Policy Matters Institute, have recommended the closure of some gaps and even review the tax system, but the idea has little traction among political leaders.

I have been a fan for five years and have followed all John has done over the years. He has gone hollywood on us. Everything he has said he hated in the past. Unless we were duped about that also. I have to rethink my loyalty to someone is obviously very different than what he portrays. What ashame that is what I loved about him he was so down to earh and seemed normal. Guess not!!!!!!
