Neil Craig prepares Crows for school of hard knocks

Portrayed by Sydney coach Paul Roos premiership as a victim of its own sales pitch with "the most exciting group" the Crows have never been, Craig now enters a minefield that his real face of the Crows team game high potential, the Gold Coast.

If home defeat for the Suns, Craig will face a new layer of reaction to the reaction to his already hot cuts Walker.

As first captain Chris McDermott Walker described as "severely punished", Craig said he was before his treatment in the same way that forced AXING 2009 club champion Bernie Vince.

"It is recognized that when Taylor gets the ball, good things can happen," Craig said of his leading goalkicker (13.9).

"Is it getting enough Probably not top of that, there's that old adage: -?. What happens with the defensive work that needs to happen?

"That's when Taylor fell in the last three to four weeks."

Walker is presented as a scapegoat for the loss record of 96 points from Adelaide to Melbourne at the MCG last Sunday. But Craig insists that many other players are on notice and he rejects Walker can not operate in a system featuring front and Kurt Tippett Shaun McKernan.

Adelaide after 2-4 win-loss seems in line with a team developing a new era, after losing some of the greatest players of the club, like Simon Goodwin and Andrew McLeod.

Roos suggested Craig has created a noose by refusing to use the "reconstruction" or "developing" lines with a list that appears at least two seasons to challenge for a top-four spot.

"I never went that route because I do not think so," said Craig.

"It gives too many deaths too many. When I told this group do not worry this year, you are three years away ... our fans might say it's reality, but the players do not want to be told.

"I will not. If it means more pressure on me, so be it. "

Adelaide line-up to face the Suns will be confirmed this morning when the medicos will test Crows midfielder Patrick Dangerfield who suffered a concussion in the face of notorious Melbourne tyro Jack Trengove.

"We will not take chances with Patrick," said Craig.

"It must be absolutely clear that it is OK to play, it must pass all tests and medical staff should be happy.

"If there is any doubt, he will not play - and it should not.

I'd cite Clarke's third law, but there's not really that much here that's advanced. We've been behaviorally and genetically modifying animals to work with us for thousands of years, and corvids have been clever animals for even longer than that. It's just it's taken us a long time realize the exact extent of their cleverness. It's kind of obvious when you think about it -- of all the land animals out there known to have intelligences similar to our own, corvids are the most adaptable, the widest spread, and the most innocuous in appearance given their relatively small size and dark coloring. Plus they can fly. If we were to domesticate an animal for the express purposes to spy-work, it would be them.

I just put on that NOVA episode (I'd watched part of it a while back, and have been meaning to watch the whole thing), and the freaky thing is that the crows' alarm calls from the episode have really upset one of my pet cockatiels. I don't know if it's because he recognizes it as an alarm call specifically, or because he recognizes it as a crow-call* in general.
