PETERS: Late Race Crash Spoils Day
After a three-week break in the schedule for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returns to action at Dover Speedway (Delaware) International. The No. 17 team had a top-10 run going until the last lap of the race when a competitor has decided to take three wide into the turn and taking the air at the rear of Toyota Tundra No. 17 resulted in a spin. Peters moved away from the accident but the truck was severely damaged on the left side and Peters was unable to drive the truck on the line resulting in a 17th place finish."We had a tough weekend all around," Peters said after the race."Our truck has never responded to the changes we've made I'm really proud of the guys on this No. 17 Toyota Tundra;. We beat all weekend to try to do better We thought we were going to leave here with. a top-10 but it was not meant to be. "
Staring at the 24th position, Peters began working his way methodically to the front of the field. The first caution of the race waved at the knees of six. The No. 17 team chose not to come to pit lane, feeling it was too early in the race to the pit. The race restarted on lap 12 with Peters in the 20th position.Peters continued to fight for position around clique, but was unable to advance progress. A warning timely fell on lap 45, giving the No. 17 team the opportunity to make adjustments if necessary. The team went down the pits for four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment. A solid pit stop by the No. 17 team moved Peters to 17th place for the resumption of round 50. Cautions breed cautions and four laps later the yellow flag was displayed again for another incident on the track. The changes to the truck improved treatment slightly but not enough to help position Peters gain valuable track.
Peters has been scored in the 19th position when the yellow flag stirred fourth on lap 71 for a hard crash in turn four. The No. 17 Red Horse Racing teammate Miguel Paludo participated and supported widespread damage left front. The impact was enough to end the day Paludo. Under the caution period Peters reported to the team he was too free. Crew chief Butch Hylton called Peters to pit road for big changes at No. 17 trucks. The race restarted on lap 80 with Peters scored in the 18th spot.
